They deserved this time so much. 😭 Where s8 was their toughest season, s9 is definitely Rick and Michonne’s most blissful. And I absolutely adore everything about it. Sometimes I forget they only got about 4 episodes of scenes in Season 9 because they made every single scene they had together count and it was just tens across the board every time.
After every time-jump in this show, Rick and Michonne’s feelings, desire, and appreciation for each other grow stronger and in s9 I love how deeply in love they are. It’s so sweet the way they’re vocally aware of how lucky and grateful they are to have each other. Rick was saying some of the best things he’s ever said to Michonne this season and thanking his lucky stars out loud for this woman. Here for it. Like how can you not smile and love every blissful and significant s9 exchange of theirs? The “famous Rick Grimes,” them agreeing to build for the future with a baby!!, and that sweet as-can-be Family Fun Day with Judith.
I’m so glad they got to experience a time of pure happiness and normalcy and it’s so sad that it was abruptly cut short when they were really looking forward to growing their family and building their future together. But I appreciate how in Rick’s final episodes there was emphasis placed on how he and Michonne meant the world to each other and were in such a good space as a healthy unit. It’s fitting the last real encounter we see them have features them holding hands. They’re united to the very “end,” and even in Rick’s hallucination, their love is so vivid and real.
In Season 9, Rick and Michonne got to experience and enjoy a bit of the life they had been working so hard to build and it proved how they’re perfect for each other not just when fighting the fight but also when just getting to breathe and be. The s9 era, while brief, was truly blissful.
Every era of theirs brought something great because Rick and Michonne, and Andy & Danai the actors that excellently bring them to life, are the gift that keeps on giving. And I am sooo looking forward to seeing what new phase is brought about from the Rick and Michonne miniseries.
When Rick and Michonne return for their final chapter, I just know they are going to prove once again and once and for all that what they have is a one-of-a-kind, heart-soul-and-mind, greatest of all time, love supreme. 🥰
